The Mornington Peninsula continues to shine as one of Victoria’s most coveted coastal destinations, where natural beauty blends seamlessly with an enviable lifestyle.
Major upgrades are enhancing the Peninsula’s iconic foreshores. Works are planned for Safety Beach and Mornington’s Mothers and Fishermans beaches, while Parks Victoria is preparing a long-term plan for the iconic Sorrento Pier.
In Rye, a $2.9 million revitalisation of the foreshore promenade is nearly complete. This includes two plaza areas, a new open space, improved pathways, seating, barbeques, landscaping, extended boardwalk, better beach access, and potential new shelters and decking.
Sports and recreation facilities across the Peninsula are being significantly upgraded to meet the needs of growing communities. The $48 million Action Sports Precinct at The Ranch in Boneo has been proposed. With year-round skiing and skate parks, the precinct is expected to draw 500,000 visitors annually and generate $38 million for the local economy.
Construction is underway on the Somerville to Baxter Trail – a key link in the 170km Peninsula Trails network. The $7.8 million project will provide off-road access from central Melbourne to Balnarring, with completion expected in late 2025.
