From rail and roads to education and recreation, Whitehorse is undergoing a once-in-a generation infrastructure renaissance, with billions invested to reshape how people live, travel and connect across the city.

A wave of transport investment across the region promises faster trips and smarter connections. At the centre of this shift is the North East Link, now advancing rapidly with tunnel boring machines carving out 6.5km twin tunnels between Watsonia and Bulleen. Set for completion in 2028, the project is set to remove up to 15,000 trucks from local roads and slash some travel times by as much as 35 minutes. A major overhaul of the Eastern Freeway will add express lanes, advanced traffic systems and a new high-frequency busway.

Work is also underway on the Suburban Rail Loop East, a landmark infrastructure project that will reshape how people travel across the city. The first stage from Cheltenham to Box Hill will feature six new underground stations, including Burwood, and is on track to open in 2035. The next section – Suburban Rail Loop North – will extend the line to Melbourne Airport, dramatically improving access to employment, health and education precincts.
