The North East is swiftly becoming one of Melbourne’s most sought-after and connected regions. Strategic investments in transport, sports facilities, schools and healthcare are enhancing the area’s appeal, creating a thriving environment filled with opportunity.
At the core of this transformation is the North East Link, the region’s largest infrastructure project to date. This 6.5km tunnel is on track to open in 2028, reducing travel times by up to 35 minutes. The project includes Eastern Freeway upgrades, high frequency busways, new cycling and walking paths, and two hectares of parkland along the Yarra River and Koonung Creek.
The M80 Ring Road upgrade will add five lanes to enhance traffic flow between Plenty Road and the M80 interchange, while the Epping Road and Bridge Inn Road upgrades will further improve the region’s transport network.
Looking ahead, the Suburban Rail Loop North will transform connectivity, cutting commute times, easing congestion and linking communities across the North East and beyond. Seven new stations, including Doncaster, Heidelberg, Bundoora, Reservoir, Fawkner, Broadmeadows and Melbourne Airport, will provide improved access in stages through to 2053.
The City of Whittlesea Community Hospital, on track to open this year, will provide urgent care, mental health support, dialysis, chemotherapy and rehabilitation, and ease pressure on nearby hospitals.
