Large-scale retail development, major transport upgrades and sustained school modernisation continue to spur demand across Maroondah, taking liveability in this coveted municipality to new heights.

Up to 1000 public service workers will relocate to VicRoads’ new purpose-built base in Ringwood, signalling an exciting future for the Eastland precinct as the retail, entertainment and commercial centre of the east.

Improvement surrounding Croydon Station and its shopping precinct is also moving forward, demonstrating the council’s commitment to the area’s major shopping and transport hubs.

Major rejuvenation of Maroondah’s village shopping centres has been underway throughout 2022, including Loughnan Rd in Ringwood, Paul Street in Croydon, Bayswater Road in Croydon South and Old Lilydale Road in Ringwood East. And work has begun on the $355 million redevelopment of Westfield Knox in nearby Wantirna, which will deliver a new fresh- food market later this year and an elevated lifestyle and retail precinct in 2023.

The level crossing at Maroondah Highway has been removed and the new elevated Lilydale Station is now open, paving the way for more trains through Maroondah when the Lilydale Line becomes level-crossing-free in 2025.

Generational infrastructure projects such as North East Link and the $50 billion Suburban Rail Loop will improve connectivity and bolster economic growth across the entire outer east region.

Schools across Maroondah have been comprehensively upgraded in recent years, including this year’s $18 million overhaul of Croydon Community School. Younger students are next to benefit, with significant funding earmarked to revamp primary schools and childcare centres across the municipality. Ruskin Park Primary School’s $10 million upgrade, including three new learning hubs, is on track to open at the end of the year, allowing it to enrol an extra 200 local students.

Sporting facilities across the region are also in line for significant upgrades. Eastfield Park Sporting Pavilion has been redeveloped and Ringwood’s new $3.5 million RO Spencer Pavilion opened last year. Now Jubilee Park will get a new indoor cricket training centre by the end of the year, while Dorset Recreation Reserve’s new $4 million multipurpose community and sports hub, and the redevelopment of Ainslie Park sporting pavilion, both open this year.

This significant investment to further enhance retail precincts, sporting and recreation facilities, and schools across Maroondah ensures this prized region remains primed for solid long-term growth.
