With its sandy beaches, leafy boulevards, high-performing schools and thriving boutique retail precincts, Bayside has long been one of Melbourne’s most aspirational destinations. This reputation will be further cemented by major upgrades to the rail network, sporting facilities, beach infrastructure and parkland, taking liveability in this coveted municipality to new heights.

Early works are underway on the $50 billion Suburban Rail Loop, which will deliver critical connections to surrounding suburbs, the CBD and Melbourne Airport via an orbital link. The first 26km, linking Cheltenham to Box Hill, is expected to be in operation by 2035.

Bayside’s beautiful beaches have received much attention in recent years. Vital repairs have restored public access to a 340m section of Middle Brighton Pier. Work has also begun on a $4 million redevelopment of the Black Rock Life Saving Club Pavilion, while the new Dendy Street Beach Life Saving Pavilion will form the centrepiece of a $13 million upgrade to improve the iconic precinct by 2023.

The council has invested close to $75 million in the past year to upgrade key community infrastructure, including a multi-million-dollar redevelopment of Bayside Netball Centre at Sandringham College, $6.9 million for the Tulip Street Basketball extension, and $7.6 million for four sports ground pavilion upgrades.

Playgrounds across Bayside have also benefitted, with the council set to spend more than $10 million over the next several years to ensure the municipality continues to cater for young families.

Home to some of Melbourne’s top-performing secondary schools, Bayside’s family allure will be further enhanced with a $600,000 boost for North Brighton Kindergarten and $180,000 for a multi-sensory natural discovery play centre for Hunt Community Child Centre.

Work has begun to transform the former Elsternwick Park Golf Course into a natural oasis over the next decade, with the long-term vision to include a biodiversity refuge, chain of ponds, and wetlands.

This significant investment to further enhance Bayside’s beautiful beaches, parks and retail precincts, superb sporting and recreation facilities, and excellent schools ensures this prized region remains primed for solid long-term growth.
