Body conscious

For a great spot to breakfast, brunch or lunch with a healthy twist, Boroondara has you covered. Its bustling strips are dotted with a veritable smorgasbord of cafes that will tickle your tastebuds and satisfy your appetite…in a nutritious way!

With so many amazing eateries across Melbourne’s leafy inner east, here are three of our top three destinations for the body conscious:

The brainchild of George Calombaris and a part of the Hellenic Republic familyMastic is the perfect place to enjoy a great tasting, healthy brunch.

This bright and vibrant Kew cafe features a menu based on the widely respected health benefits of maintaining a Mediterranean diet. Vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free diners won’t go hungry here either!

That’s not to say you won't find your usual favourites. Poached eggs, muesli and avocado are complemented by acai bowls and raw treats made with no refined sugar or flour. For the more intrepid foodies there is the Open Souva – a blue corn tortilla filled with grains, poached eggs, tahini yogurt and tomato chilli chutney or the Avgolemono (egg-lemon soup) served with barley congee, bonito, smoked trout, and kimchi.

A café loved by Instagrammers Sardi has rapidly built a reputation as a healthy destination where you can take your not-so-healthy friends!

The hole-in-the-wall cafe in Hawthorn offers everything from almond milk porridge and superfood breakfast bowls to acai smoothies and lychee and coconut hotcakes.

If you’re having a naughty day, give Sardi’s infamous Southern fried chicken burger a go. With slaw, aioli and sweet potato fries you can make up for it tomorrow, right…?

Mr Hendricks

Situated on Balwyn’s bustling Whitehorse Road, Mr Hendricks was founded by four local siblings. A true family affair it takes its name from their English Staffy.

A local favourite, Mr Hendricks is loved by regulars for its inviting, light-filled interior, courtyard seating area and fresh breakfast menu. Our top health-conscious picks include the sprouting broccoli salad and the coconut rice porridge with brulee bananas and candied pecans.
