A new take on Melbourne's CBD
Question: When is a hotel a trailer?
Answer: When it's Melbourne's new Notel - a unique overnight experience in a vintage 1970s Airstream trailer, perched atop a CBD car park.
Located on the corner of Harper and Flinders Lane in the heart of Melbourne's vibrant CBD, the Notel is a completely unique take on a night out in the city.
Within five fully renovated and restored Airstream buses, each stylishly appointed five-star suite has been re-fitted to include full bathroom facilities, luxury bedding and many of the extras you'd expect to find in a premium city hotel.
Check-in any time from 3.00pm and check out by 11.00am. Oh and you'll need a smartphone - no traditional locks and keys for this establishment! Pack your intuition too - you'll need it to find the hidden door on Flinders Lane that leads you up to your night to remember.
Notel is the brain child of James Fry, owner of the car park below the new accommodation and event space. A trip to the US to source the original Airstreams helped him achieve his vision "for something totally different and something that would excite everyone."
Complete the CBD experience by bar and restaurant-hopping - Flinders Lane and surrounding streets offer some of Melbourne's coolest food and beverage experiences. Our top picks for a pre-dinner drink include the Bomba Bar (Laurel and Hardy cocktail anyone?), Gin Palace for a best-in-class martini or Lustre Bar for a Singapore Sling or a Brandy Alexander.
Melburnians are spoilt for choice when it comes to amazing restaurants. Three of the best include Cumulus Inc (and Cumulus Up), known for its amazing oysters and tempting charcuterie plates, CODA - where innovative French-Vietnamese dishes are complemented by an award-winning wine list, and Lucy Liu - an Asian fusion restaurant that combines amazing food (designed to share), friendly service and an uber cool atmosphere befitting its namesake. Enjoy!
