Eligibility Criteria by Category

Awards open to all age groups. The nominee must either live, work, volunteer, or study in the City of Boroondara, and have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over several years.

Local business award
Presented to an individual or group that have had a positive impact on local business. The nominee must either live or work in the City of Boroondara and have made a noteworthy contribution to working with the community to foster business and create innovative ways of working. This award is focused on business innovation and local business engagement and will be awarded to a local business that has illustrated the values of Boroondara, integrity, respect, courage, pride, support, and togetherness.

Local educator award
Presented to an individual that has been an outstanding mentor during lockdown. This individual symbolises the values of education and engagement of our community and is an inspirational educator and a role model for others. The nominee will have made significant impact/inspiration to the youth of Boroondara.

Neighbourhood/village award
Presented to an individual or group from each of the nine Boroondara Villages that has focused on their neighbourhood to foster engagement and inclusivity. Villages include Ashburton, Balwyn, Burwood, Camberwell, Glenferrie Road, Greythorn, Kew, Maling Road and Balwyn North. This award targets voluntary individuals or groups that are local heroes. The contribution can occur in the year prior to the award being presented or as recognition of a longstanding commitment and service to the community.

Health & wellbeing award
Presented to an individual or group that has worked to better the health and wellbeing of the community. Those that have led or contributed to delivering genuine, caring acts, activities, programs that respond to the health and wellbeing of the community. Activities that actively engage the local community and provide a positive outcome on the health of our local people.

Family award
Presented to an individual or group that has been an encouragement within the family. This award recognises true dedication, commitment, selflessness and loyalty to their family or others family in the City of Boroondara. This award celebrates the importance of those that are informally in service of others and are tirelessly giving without any expectation of reward or recognition for themselves.

Boroondara people’s award
Presented to an individual that has been a presence in our community and has made Boroondara a unique place to live. This person symbolises the values important to the Boroondara community and is an inspirational individual and role model for others in the way they contribute to the fabric of the area. The nominee will have illustrated the values of integrity, respect, courage, pride, support, and togetherness within the community, through professional or voluntary undertakings, over the last 12 months or over several years.
